Can You Ever Really Know Someone?

Philip Sanders had a perfect life and a perfect wife. Independent and ambitious, Ellie was, as he often joked, more than his equal. She was his compass and his destination all in one. Then she was gone, killed in a horrific accident. She left behind a husband in danger of losing his way, their adored 4 year old Chris, and a life in Los Angeles that felt much more like hers than his.

Philip and Chris move back to his old haunts in New York City, hoping for a fresh start, but things just get worse. His past begins to unravel, making him question whether he ever knew his wife, whether his past happiness was just a lie. And in an avalanche of drugs and crime, a new harder-edged New York turns on Philip and Chris, placing them in greater danger every day. Some person or entity is orchestrating that danger, and Philip can only stop it if he understands their plan. On the verge of a breakdown, Philip faces life and death questions even as he desperately tries to discover the truth about his past.

A city in crisis, two lives at stake. Crack, AIDS, Gentrification, Greed. New York, Christmas 1984. Snow is falling.

Explore New York

80s New York was a volatile, loud, creative, mean, crowded, friendly, caring, dangerous, frightening, compelling, addictive, surprising, depressing, poor, excessive, overwhelming, lonely place.

You knew that already. But its fun to revisit the uniquely contradictory New York in photos and videos… and this summer, read SNOW FALL for a very special story of the city at the center of the world.
